The platform is rolling out a new feature that allows them to cut down on the quantity of artificial intelligence-produced content appearing in their feeds. This step comes as the platform announced that it currently hosts more than 1 billion AI videos.
Pilot Phase and Launch
The new functionality is being tested over the next few weeks before a full-scale rollout. This shift comes amid a rise in AI-generated material, driven by new AI video creators.
The Broader AI Trend
It has been noted that nearly a tenth of the fastest-growing content creators on a popular video site exclusively feature clips produced artificially. A significant portion of this output is classified as “AI slop”, a label for poor-quality, factory-style content that is frequently illogical or dreamlike.
Based on user feedback that many people like content created using AI tools, from AI artwork to science explainers, and we aim to give people the ability to see more or less of that, depending on their own likes,” commented a spokesperson.
Volume and Proportions
TikTok shared that there are currently over a billion videos on its service tagged as AI-generated. Overall, more than 100 mn pieces of content are submitted to the platform every day, making clips made by AI a minor portion of its complete catalog.
Customizing Your Feed
Members will be capable of reduce or increase the level of AI content they view by using the topic control feature in the application and choosing the AI content topic. Additional categories that can already be controlled under the tool include current affairs, clothing, beauty, and choreography.
Platform Guidelines
The platform’s policies require users to tag lifelike AI-generated content, and it bans dangerous AI impersonations of well-known individuals or crisis events. Any authentic-looking artificial content that is unmarked can be taken down under its terms of service.
Furthermore, the app will from now on add an artificially created tag to content created with its built-in AI features, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing AI-generated material. This action is aimed to help prevent users from seeking to circumvent the tagging system.
Responsible AI Funding
TikTok is also introducing a $2m awareness program for specialists and groups to produce informative material about ethical AI use. This program will benefit non-profit groups focused on educating programming and robotics.
Moderation Strategy
The video-sharing app has defended its moderation strategy, during controversy over intentions to lay off a large number of safety staff in the United Kingdom. TikTok is set to eliminate 439 jobs in its user protection team in London, with trade unions and online safety experts raising concerns that humans are being replaced by AI moderation.
A senior executive stated that people-led review would continue to be important, but artificial intelligence can protect employees by filtering out the most distressing content prior to it gets reviewed by people. The platform announced a significant reduction in disturbing and violent content handled by human moderators over the past year due to the use of its AI tools.
“We think that it’s essential to integrate staff and AI to maintain a secure environment,” the executive stated. “We’ll have humans as involved in the system, but we also think it’s highly necessary to minimize viewing of dangerous material as quickly as possible, which is the area in which a significant AI assistance is proving valuable process content quickly.”
