This Supernatural Story

Steven Soderbergh pushes his directorial skills through this nifty ghostly tale filmed completely from the perspective of the spirit. As a family including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe moves into their new suburban house, the camera – as the unseen entity – tracks their movements. The teen shows signs of sensing the ghostly being, and it seems protective of her. Yet what is the reason? The premise is enjoyable that avoids overstaying, with a twist you might not see coming. October 11th, multiple showings, Sky Cinema

Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy

The iconic actor embraces his eccentric image in this meta comedy caper. He plays a self-obsessed film star playing himself who agrees to a $1m payday to visit a festive event in Mallorca for the rich Javi Gutierrez. Recruited by the intelligence agency to investigate the alleged criminal, the actor's “nouveau shamanic acting ability” comes in handy. October 11th, 9pm, the Channel 4 network

The Black Phone

Derrickson's contained scarefest stands strong despite the lack of a follow-up. Located in 1970s Colorado, multiple disappearances has left the youth on edge. After Finney is kidnapped by the kidnapper and held captive in a basement, he fears a terrible outcome. But the non-functional line in the room keeps ringing, with spooky callers offering help, and the prescient dreams of his sister Gwen may be his salvation. An effective horror. Saturday 11 October, late evening, on Film4

The Eyes of Tammy Faye

In the conflict between spirituality and money, it's a knockout win for Mammon in this director's brilliantly over-the-top biopic of the disgraced televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield plays the greedy Jim, who states initially, asserting religious justification for riches. Both individuals begin capitalizing on the nation's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and hypocrisy, though Chastain succeeds to present the character in a likable light. Tuesday 14 October, late night, Film4

Black Bag

This period's second offering from Steven Soderbergh presents a spy mystery as tight like the turtlenecks used by Michael Fassbender's intelligence officer. He is tasked with uncovering a double agent inside the organization from five suspects – including is his spouse. Both actors are experts of deadpan cool, resulting in an engaging mental battle of deception or honesty unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela join in the clever spy entertainment. Friday 17 October, multiple time slots, Sky Cinema Premiere
