Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
A high-ranking official said the incident made him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
